Innovation Game: FC welcome AC Milan

A real highlight awaits FC fans in the upcoming pre-season. On Saturday 16th July 2022, 1. FC Köln will welcome the 19-time Italian champions, AC Milan to the RheinEnergieSTADION. The Telekom Cup will take place in co-operation with the technology partnership with Deutschen Telekom and will present new technologies and features as the “Innovation Game”.

Closer than ever before

Not just the fans in the stadium will get to experience the game right before their very eyes but the TV viewers at home can expect a completely new experience. FC fans will be closer than ever before and follow the game from never-before-seen perspectives. Players will wear specialised body cameras during the game against AC Milan, meaning fans can watch the action unfold as if they were on the pitch. The FC players will also be “mic’d up”, highlights will automatically be created, and interesting data feeds are on offer.

Improved stadium experience

The stadium experience for FC fans should also improve throughout the Telekom Cup. In a survey from 1. FC Köln in 2021, FC fans wished for a better connectivity and a controlled allocation of fans throughout the stadium. These are the exact topics which FC have been busy working on and, for the first time, will implement technological solutions during the Telekom Cup. A strategic Crowd Management System informs fans about which entrance, which kiosk and which toilet has the shortest queue. Through the technology partnership with Telekom, fans can look forward to having 5G service in the stadium.

Philipp Türoff, 1. FC Köln Managing Director, is excited about the stage on offer to technology topics and that the focus will be on them at such an interesting game. “Since my first day at 1. FC Köln, I have been positively surprised from the number of innovative ideas and technological innovations surrounding the stadium experience. With our partner Telekom Deutschland, we have given our activities an added push and will now be in the spotlight surrounding the game. Telekom Deutschland, 1. FC Köln and several start-ups want to show what can be possible in football in the future.”

  • Telekom as FC's technology partner

    Since summer 2021, the Deutsche Telekom is exclusive Telecommuncation and Technology Partner at 1. FC Köln. Since 2018, 1. FC Köln have been supporting selected Start-ups as part of the Start-up Programme, the 1. FC Köln Hype Spin Accelerator. Telekom have also been promoting Start-ups and dealing with a similarly intensive programme about innovation transfer in the areas of 5G, AI technology and the Internet of Things. Alongside FC, Telekom and the club are supporting the 5G Co:Creation Lab at the TH Köln, in which students can try out and test their Start-up ideas.
