Who are CALM?

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide, and for anyone struggling with their mental health.

Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. 

CALM exists to change this. Through frontline services, national campaigns, and by building communities, they’re there for everyone who’s struggling with life. No matter what. 

It’s a movement of thousands of people and they are growing every day. All with one goal: a more hopeful society. One where people reject living miserably, get help when they need it and don’t die by suicide.

Collective action

CALM believes in the power of collective action. Doing what you love and feeling better for it. That’s where football comes in, even by reading this you know that others are too and they’ve been brought here by the love for the beautiful game.

Whether you’re watching it, reading about it, gaming or kicking it (when we can), you’re already part of a team. And CALM have got loads of tactics to help to make sure you can support yourself and the people around you.

How important is the work CALM do?

CALM's life-saving services continue to be needed more than ever. Since the first UK wide lockdown up until December, the CALM helpline has answered 99,186 calls and chats and directly prevented 323 suicides.

That’s over 16,800 hours talking to people and 934,481 chat messages exchanged around topics such as isolation, anxiety, relationship concerns, health worries, financial stress and suicidal thoughts.

Where to get help

There is always someone to help, to talk to. Aside from raising awareness about mental health, CALM have their own helpline and webchat. It is free, confidential and anonymous.
