Köln’s biggest sport teams celebrate “Diversity Day”

1. FC Köln and Kölner Haie – together for diversity

1. FC Köln and Kölner Haie celebrate “Diversity Day”.

The two most well-known sport clubs in Köln position themselves together for diversity and acceptance. Under the motto “live as you are”, 1. FC Köln and Kölner Haie will mark this with a “Diversity Day” celebration on a Matchday at the RheinEnergieSTADION and in the LANXESS arena.

The Haie will devote the home game on 27th September against Wolfsburg to the cause, as will FC with the home match against Hertha BSC. With different actions, both clubs will inform, explain and give platforms to LGBTQ initiatives.

1. FC Köln, like the city of Köln, stand for diversity and openness, and have therefore been active for over a decade in positioning the cub against homophobia and intolerance. “We’re really pleased that we’ve found a prominent partner for our activities with the Haie. With the reach of the two biggest sports clubs in Köln, we’re setting a great example of the start of our activities with Christopher Street Day,” said FC managing director, Alexander Wehrle.

“Together, we want to send a strong signal. FC and the Haie are ambassadors of this city and from that comes a responsibility to society, in order to position ourselves clearly on this subject,” said Haie managing director, Philipp Walter.

1. FC Köln have been an active part of the “Christopher Street Day” parade, with the club’s own float, since 2014. This year, they have a shark within their midst: KEC mascot, Sharky will be together with FC Kids Club Hennes at CSD.
