FC talent stays put

Akalp extends with FC

FC talent Erkan Akalp has extended his contract with 1. FC Köln. The 19-year-old left-back is currently a regular with the table-topping under-19s.

Following on from Georg Strauch, FC have extended the contract of another promising youngster in Erkan Akalp. The 19-year-old has been a key part of the under-19s success this season, having made 19 appearances in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga, as well as featuring once for the under-21s. He should make the step up next season. Akalp has also trained with the first-team on occasion this year.

Akalp said: “It was important experience for me. I want to take my next footballing steps here. I’ve been with FC since the under-8s, feel great here and can’t imagine playing anywhere else. I hope that we’ll all get through the Corona crisis quickly and healthily, and that we can play football again.”

Matthias Heidrich, head of the FC youth academy, said: “Erkan has developed brilliantly with us. He is a specialist at left-back, understands the game well and is good going forward. We are pleased that he’s decided to stay and continue his football with us.”
