Matchday 15

All information for the home game against Fuerth

On the first weekend of Advent the 1. FC Cologne will host SpVgg Greuther Fuerth in the RheinEnergieSTADION. Both the FC and the team from Franconia have tailwind after the recent successful results.

Four league positions and four points separate 1. FC Cologne and Greuther Fuerth ahead of the direct clash on Saturday at 1pm (CET) in the RheinEnergieSTADION. A win can advance both teams in the table. Three points for 1. FC Cologne in front of home crowd could enable a little space to the other promotion competitors and possibly pass HSV, which is playing in a parallel match on Saturday .

Form Check

1. FC Cologne: Two victories in the last couple of matches with  a goal difference of 11-1 speak a clear language. However, the FC had some difficulties early on in the match in Darmstadt. A strong performance in the second half with a great scoring opportunity conversion brought the victory. The defense line with Czichos-Mere-Schmitz is very stable and the offensive is always good to produce goals.

Greuther Fuerth: The guests from Fuerth had some fluctuation in performances recently, but made a strong U-turn last weekend, with two late goals against Magdeburg (3-2 win). Due to the last-minute win, the team moved into sixth position in the table. The contract extensions of head coach Damir Buric and midfielder Sebastian Ernst during the week added further satisfaction and confidence. But the last two away games recorded two defeats at Union Berlin (0-4) and in Darmstadt (0-2).

What the coaches have to say

Markus Anfang: "Greuther Fuerth has a good morale, they come back from behind on many occasions. Its a team that never gives up. They will try to put pressure on us. I hope we continue our performance from the last home game. We want to play a decent game."

Damir Buric: "1. FC Cologne have an outstanding team. For us, this is pure joy, to compete with the best and to play in such a stadium. We know the strengths of the FC of course. They are in an attacking mode and have scored plenty of goals. Like any game in this league, this game will be brutally difficult."

Personnel situation

1. FC Cologne: Jonas Hector will definitely miss the game (muscular injury in adductor), as well as both long-term injured Lasse Sobiech and Christian Clemens. The recently struggling Dominick Drexler, however, was back in full team training on Thursday.

Key Player of the opponent

Daniel Keita-Ruel is 29 years old and managed to experience quite a bit during his career. Born in Wuppertal, he went through a large part of his career at Wuppertal SV. There he made his first experiences in the first team and became a regular. However, in 2011, at the age of 22, he was sentenced to five and a half years in prison after found guilty for three robberies. After good behavior, he was released after three years on parole and took his chance: From Ratingen, Wattenscheid and Fortuna Cologne, he recommended himself for bigger tasks. Greutger Fuerth signed him during the summer and the German-Frenchman is one of the top performers in the team and impresses with strong physique and excellent ball control. The attacker is set as centre forward, playing all 14 league games and scoring eight goals.

Physically strong and technically savvy: Daniel Keita-Ruel
