Contract expires in summer

Armin Veh will not extend with FC

FC managing director, Armin Veh will not extend his contract with 1. FC Köln past June 2020 due to personal reasons.

Managing director, Armin Veh won’t extend his contract with 1. FC Köln past June 2020. Armin Veh said: “I want to thank the new board and Dr. Werner Wolf for the discussions, which were full of trust.”

What was decisive for the 58-year-old, in the end, were personal reasons. “I’ve been in professional football for more than 30 years and had discussions and thoughts about the future, that I won’t plan further than the summer and don’t want to commit myself to such an important job,” said Armin Veh. “FC are a special club with special employees. Therefore, it’s also important for me that we have clarity. FC now have the ability to plan and enough time to find the right man to succeed me. I will do everything to make sure FC achieves our goals. We now must concentrate on remaining in the Bundesliga.”

Armin Veh joined FC in 2017 after previous successes that included guiding VfB Stuttgart to the Bundesliga title in 2007. He joined as managing director in December of that year and signed a deal until June 30th 2020.

FC President, Dr. Werner Wolf said: “FC respects Armin Veh’s personal decision. Along with those who are responsible for sport, he helped bring the team back to the Bundesliga and strengthened the squad. We appreciate it that he hasn’t gone into negotiations or played on time, instead that he came to us early on and informed us openly of his decision.” Wolf continued, “Regardless of the question of who will take over the position of sporting director at 1. FC Köln in the future, FC remains in full working order. We are now in peace and against the background of the sporting development, we can work on the coming steps for a replacement.”
