Dominick Drexler, Jonas Hector and FC head coach, Achim Beierlorzer spoke to NetCologne FC-TV after the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach and gave their thoughts on the derby defeat.

Dominick Drexler: “In the first half, we were a little nervous. In the second, we tried and invested a lot and had a few chances to level the game. It’s a shame that we went off the pitch beaten, but we’ve got to do better in the next derby and put it right. We owe it to the fans, that we play with even more fight to bring home the first win at home for them.”

Jonas Hector: “We made the opponent stronger through our mistakes, especially when it came to passing. We were missing something in the first half. In the first half, we had one or two chances but didn’t work it well and made the wrong decision. In the second half, we were better but weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. We’ll analyse the game critically so that we can learn from it and then move on.”

Achim Beierlorzer: “We lacked the necessary courage to get through the tackles. Gladbach made it tough for us because they were stronger in the tackle and more aggressive. We let ourselves feel that pressure and made individual mistakes. The opportunities that we had, we weren’t brave enough to play them through to the end. The call for the second half was that everyone pick themselves up and believe in their own strengths. We did that better, and had chances. We played with risk in the second half and through that, got a bit lucky with Gladbach on the counter. Had we played more consequently, we could have put them under more pressure. But we didn’t get anything from the game, therefore we’re disappointed today and it’s a shame for the fans. But we go again. We’ve got to look forward. The Bundesliga is offering us challenges that we would have liked last year, so we’ll take it on the chin. That we keep developing, remain stable and not let ourselves feel the pressure from lost tackles – that’s the task that is ahead and what we’ve got to keep ourselves busy with. That is valid for the entire coaching staff as well as the team. Heads up and we go again.”
