    Big win at home

After a goalless first half 1. FC Köln decide the match in the second half against an outnumbered Hamburger SV with a score of 3-0 (0-0). Anthony Modeste scored three (61', 82', 86') for FC at a sold-out RheinEnergieSTADION.

After his rib injury on the first match day Dominic Maroh was back in Peter Stöger's starting line-up. This meant that Sorensen switched back to his right back position. Olkowski started from the bench. Moreover, Yuya Osako and Marco Höger started again instead of Konstantin Rausch and Simon Zoller in a 3-4-3 formation for a team that presented their new carnival shirts today. For Cologne's Timo Horn it was a special match as the home-grown keeper appeared in his 150th official FC match.

Maroh injured

The match started with an agile FC side, who put pressure on the visiting defense. Modeste was trying to reach a long ball in the box when former FC attacker Falko Götz's son Ashton defended the ball with his hand. Unfortunately, referee Brand did not give the penalty (2'). Hamburg's first chance resulted from an accidental Wood finish, which was palmed away by Tim Horn (9'). After a challenge with Wood, Dominic Maroh picked up a shoulder injury and had to end his come back early. He was replaced by Dominique Heintz (12').

Modeste hits the post

The eventless match was shaped by two tactically disciplined teams, who did not offer any space for combinations in attack. Thus, FC needed a set piece for their next chance, but Rudnevs headed against the side-netting (18'). 40 minutes into the match Osako entered the box from the left and was fouled by Götz. Modeste took the responsibility of the penalty but fired the ball against the left post (41'). As a consequence, the two sides went in deadlocked at the break.

Wood sent off

Stöger changed early in the second period as Simon Zoller was substituted in for Rudnevs (55'). The match was still rather eventless until minute 58 when Bobby Wood was sent off due to violent conduct against Dominique Heintz.

Zoller crosses decisively

FC were willing to make the most of this momentum. Hector passed the ball precisely to Zoller on the left wing. The striker sent in a dangerous cross, which appeared to go in directly, although Anthony Modeste has been credited with the goal (61').

Modeste decides it

FC were in the driving seat now and controlled the match in the Hamburg half. 82 minutes into the match, Modeste met a cross from Risse with his head to put FC up another goal. The Frenchman was on fire now and decided the match with another goal. It was another ball from Risse, and this time Modeste tunnelled Rene Adler in the HSV goal to make it 3-0 (86’). The Frenchman now holds an incredible record of 31 goals in 47 official FC matches.
