Parting ways

Bittencourt to Hoffenheim

Attacking player Leonardo Bittencourt will leave 1. FC Köln to join Bundesliga team TSG Hoffenheim.

Leonardo Bittencourt will leave 1. FC Köln after three seasons. The attacking player will use a clause in his contract, which was activated by the club’s relegation, to join TSG Hoffenheim. His contract with FC was set to run until 2021. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.

“Leo was one of the players we wanted to keep, but we understand his desire to take his career to the highest level and play in the Champions League with Hoffenheim. There are no bad feelings,” said FC Managing Director Armin Veh.

Leonardo Bittencourt states: “Those who know me also know that I was fully invested in 1. FC Köln from the very start. FC and its surrounding environment really just has a different feeling. I mean that. Thank you for everything. I will never forget my time in Cologne with this squad and I will also remain connected to this city, especially now with the birth of my daughter Luana here.”

Leonardo Bittencourt arrived at the start of the 2015/16 season from Hannover 96. He has since appeared in 76 competitive matches for FC and has scored 12 goals and provided 17 assists. 1. FC Köln would like to thank Leo for his efforts at the club and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.
