For South African children and young people in need

Calls for donations: FC Foundation collect football boots

FC player, Lasse Sobiech and the 1. FC Köln Foundation (1. FC Köln Stiftung) together support the charitable organisation, Young Bafana. They offer children and young people from the townships of Cape Town football training and school lessons. With the home games against HSV and against Regensburg, FC fans have the chance to donate their football boots to those in need.

Lasse Sobiech, the 1. FC Köln Foundation and Young Bafana are calling on all fans for their support. Whoever has a pair of football boots too many is asked to donate these to the children and young people in the townships of Cape Town. At the home games against HSV and against Regensburg, there will be a big collection.

Used, but still functioning football boots can be donated up until kick-off – at the home game against HSV, this can be done at the Foundation pop-up stand at the West Stand at the RheinEnergieSTADION. Against Regensburg, the opportunity to hand over the boots will be at the stand on Oskar-Rehfeldt-Weg. FC fans can also donate their football boots at the FC Day at the Races (22nd April, Foundation stand) or up until 17th May at Geißbockheim. Particularly necessary are boots between the sizes of 32 to 40 (UK  12.5 to 6, US 13 to 7). Please tie the boots together in pairs with the laces.

In the new GeißbockEcho, Lasse Sobiech speaks about how and why Young Bafana has grown in his heart. The FC player travelled to Cape Town during the Winter Break and visited the organisation. “Young Bafana offers kids from the townships a chance to be part of football training. The children comes from tough circumstances and have often, at their young age, experienced a lot,” said the centre-back.

Those in the Young Bafana are only allowed to take part in training, when they complete their school lessons. The kids are, above all, learning English. This increases their chances of making a way out of the townships. “Football is fun for children. It creates happiness and ambition. This shows itself best through the lessons,” added Sobiech, who helps Young Bafana with money and donations. “Everyone can help everyone. Everyone can do something good. The small things make a difference. For example, football boots that aren’t worn anymore.”
