New signings

Calò and Horvat join FC Frauen

1. FC Köln have signed Francesca Calò and Sabrina Horvat from Werder Bremen. The pair both have international experience for their respective countries.

Ahead of the new FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga season, 1. FC Köln have announced their first arrivals. That comes in the form of Francesca Calo and Sabrina Horvat, who previously plied their trade at Werder Bremen.

Calò is a Swiss international and featured for her country against Spain, Portugal (Algarve Cup) and Italy this season. The 24-year-old made five appearances in the league last season, following her move to Germany from BSC Young Boys Frauen. The centre-back is comfortable on the ball and strong in the challenge.

Upon signing her contract, Calò said: “I immediately had a very professional impression oft he club and felt the trust that had been placed in me. FC are a traditional club, that are back in one oft he best leagues in the world. I can’t wait to get stuck in to help FC stay up next season.”

As for Sabrina Horvat, she is at home on the right side of defence. The determined and pacey 21-year-old celebrated her debut for Austria this season in the Cyprus Cup, in the midst of her first season in the Frauen-Bundesliga. Much like Calo, she made the move to Bremen in the summer from Switzerland. Horvat made an impressive 18 appearances for Werder last season.

Horvat was similarly looking forward to the coming months, “The environment here in Köln and the new challenge got me really excited. I’m looking forward to the new opportunity and spoke with a few former FC players, who spoke of the club very highly to me.”
