For many, his name was a surprise in the starting line-up. On Saturday, in the game against Borussia Dortmund, Sava-Arangel Cestic was in the starting side. His first 95 minutes as a professional footballer saw him play an important part in FC beating BVB 2:1. In the middle of November, the 19-year-old centre-back signed a new deal until 2024.
FC Managing Director, Horst Heldt said: “Sava-Arangel did really well on his debut. However, we were already convinced of his qualities beforehand. He is a young and ambitious player and we are pleased that he has extended for the long-term with us. It is our way, developing young players from our academy.”
“With the game on Saturday, a dream came true for me,” said Sava-Arangel Cestic. “I feel the trust in myself here at 1. FC Köln and will continue to give everything in order to pay that back.”
Cestic was born in Offenbach and made his way to 1. FC Köln in summer 2019 after spells with Kickers Offenbach, FSV Frankfurt and FC Schalke 04. In the current season, he has already played 10 times for the under-21s in the Regionalliga West.
