The Board of 1. FC Köln and Armin Veh have decided to mutually terminate the contract of the managing director with immediate effect. Veh’s contract was due to last until 30th June 2020. This decision was taken independently of the game against TSG Hoffenheim this evening. Until further notice, Frank Aehlig will take over as sporting director at 1. FC Köln.
“Armin Veh had the courage to take over at FC in a difficult time. He had the goal of promotion back to the Bundesliga and he achieved that,” said FC President, Werner Wolf. “We could have well imagined a long-term cooperation with Armin Veh, as his level-headed and competent way of going did FC well. He informed us a few weeks ago, that he wanted to leave 1. FC Köln at the end of the season. We came to know Armin as someone who had his own ideas and principles, who was open and honest and kept to his word. That showed itself in the conversations of the past weeks, but also in the discussions over the termination of his contract, which served for a fair solution on all sides.”
Armin Veh said, “I would have liked to have continued my work at FC until the end. But in our current situation, which 1. FC Köln must make important decision for the future, it’s consequent from my point of view that we bring our work together to an end. With Frank Aehlig, the sporting side is in good hands. I enjoyed working for FC and experienced many positives in my time here. With the current FC Board and Werner Wolf, as well as the previous Board, I would like to thank them for their trust. Last but not least, thank you to the workers at Geißbockheim, who I came to learn as a competent and loyal team. I’m completely convinced that our team can stay in the Bundesliga and I wish FC the very best.”
Armin Veh came to 1. FC Köln as managing director in December 2017. Under his sporting guidance, FC managed to return tot he Bundesliga in 2019 as 2. Bundesliga champions. All of FC would like to thank Armin Veh for his work and wishes him the very best for the future, both in business and privately.
