Main partner until 2022

FC and REWE extend early

REWE Group will remain as 1. FC Köln’s main partner and kit sponsor until at least 30th June 2022. The contract, which was due to run out in 2021, has been extended by one year.

1. FC Köln and REWE Group are extending their long-term partnership ahead of time by at least another season. The previous deal, which was set to run out at the end of next campaign, has been extended by one season and will see REWE remain as main partner and kit sponsor until 30th June 2022. Both parties have agreed not to disclose any details relating to the deal.

FC managing director Alexander Wehrle said: “Our long-term partnership is built on trust and reliability. REWE Group is a partner, to which we have much more than just a successful business relationship with. We are engaged in society with the same values, like in the current climate for the food banks. We also find creative ways to bring across joint campaigns. The extension ahead of time for our co-operation in what is a tough time for all of society is a strong signal, one which we’re very pleased about.”

In the previous seasons, the Köln firm have opted to forgo their our kit sponsorship in order to allow a joint message from the club and company to be shown, in the case of tolerance, integration and inclusion. Along with their presence on the front of the kits and training gear, along with the relevant TV adverts, REWE and FC have together developed several exciting ideas. No less than the online platform where FC fans are able to sing the Hymne together before games, as matches are played behind closed doors.

REWE Group has been the main partner of 1. FC Köln since 2007. No other company in the club’s history has been on the kit for so long. Marketing studies regularly show that the combination of 1. FC Köln and REWE is amongst the most well-known in the Bundesliga – even by fans of other clubs.

REWE Group CEO Lionel Souque said: “At REWE Group, we have stood by 1. FC Köln in even in the toughest moments over the past 13 years. In the current challenging situation, as the main sponsor, we will play our part in giving the club a firm perspective and security for planning. The sporting development recently – from the youth teams to the first-team – has shown all fans that FC are on a good path. At REWE, we want to continue on this path.”
