1. FC Köln have extended the contract of promising youngster Marvin Obuz until 2024. The winger, who was German champion with the under-17s in 2019, has been part of the Germany youth teams since the under-16s. Since the beginning of the year, the 19-year-old has been training with the first-team and was in the matchday squad against Borussia Dortmund for the first time.
“Marvin is one of our best academy talents. In the current season, the A-Junioren-Bundesliga has been cancelled. He then had to prove himself with the men in our under-21s after just one year of under-19 football. That has been no problem for him. With his dynamic and his quality going forward, he has managed to move up to the next level quickly and put in top performances. He also shows this every day in first-team training. Along with that, Marvin is a great lad personally. If he keeps going, his debut in the Bundesliga is just a matter of when and not if,” said FC Managing Director, Horst Heldt.
“This season has gone from one thing to another for me. I want to make the next step and not just train with the first-team but to play with them. Therefore, I see the best opportunity to do that here in Köln and with FC, where I was born and where I have played since the under-8s,” said Marvin Obuz.
Marvin Obuz was born on 25th January 2002 in Köln and took his first footballing steps with BC Efferen before joining 1. FC Köln at the age of seven back in 2009. In 2019, the current under-19 international scored 12 goals in 18 games to help FC win the under-17 German Championship. In the current season, the winger has made 22 appearances in the Regionalliga West and scored nine times.
