1. FC Köln have extended their start-up support programme onto the international stage. In the fourth cycle of the Accelerator, FC will work with 30 international partners from professional sport. Some of these clubs and organisations include Valencia CF (La Liga), Milwaukee Bucks (NBA), Inter Miami (MLS) and Philadelphia Phillies (MLB). The aim is to filter out the most promising start-ups from more than 900 applications from around the world and to promote them together. For this purpose, FC will link its own funding program with the Global Virtual Accelerator from HYPE, the world's largest sports innovation network. 1. FC Köln and HYPE have been working together since 2018. The DFL and DFB are also now taking part in the Accelerator.
1. FC Köln Managing Director, Alexander Wehrle said: “We want to look even more specifically for start-ups that will help us move forward with their ideas - whether in terms of sport or in the development of exciting solutions for our fans. The Global Virtual Accelerator is exactly the right approach for this. The fact that the DFL and DFB have now followed us into this program shows that we, as 1. FC Köln, moved in the right direction early on. We look forward to the start-ups and to the exchange with other clubs from major, globally recognised sports leagues.”Amir Raveh, President and Founder of HYPE Sports Innovation added: “We are delighted to continue the great partnership with 1. FC Köln, an innovation leader in the Bundesliga. I look forward to seeing the solutions that we will implement in 2021. HYPE will continue impacting people's lives through the power of sports and innovation.”
