Two-year loan to SC Verl

FC extend with Oliver Issa Schmitt

1. FC Köln have extended the contract of Oliver Issa Schmitt until 2024. The FC under-21 talent will be loaned out to SC Verl for the following two seasons.

Oliver Schmitt has joined SC Verl. The 21-year-old winger from the under-21s will play on loan for the 3. Liga club for the coming two campaigns. At the same time, Schmitt has been given a long-term contract until 2024. He has been with FC for over a decade.

“Despite a long injury, Oliver had a good season with the under-21s and was involved in many goals. In Verl, he now has the chance to make the next step and to gain match practice. That is very important for his development,” said Jörg Jakobs.

“I’ve been at FC for 14 years now. As a small boy, I was regularly in the stadium with my father. FC are my childhood club, just like Köln is my home. I want to gain a foothold here and, one day, play in RheinEnergieSTADION myself. Now, my focus is on the challenge at SC Verl and I’m looking forward to that,” said Oliver Issa Schmitt.

Oliver Issa Schmitt was born in Köln and joined FC at the age of seven. He has made his way through the academy and for the 2019-20 season, moved up from the under-19s to the under-21s. Since then, Schmitt has made 43 appearances in the Regionalliga West. In the season just gone, he scored six goals and set up a further five as the team finished fifth.
