New deal until 2021

FC extends with Modeste

Striker Anthony Modeste has signed a contract extension with 1. FC Köln to add two more years to his running deal.

1. FC Köln has extended the contract of Striker Anthony Modeste until June 30th, 2021. In the new deal his opt-out clause for the Bundesliga has been removed. Modeste, who scored 15 league goals for FC last season, will train with the rest of his teammates on Monday. The 28-year-old arrived in the summer of 2015 by way of TSG Hoffenheim. His former deal with FC was set to expire in 2019.

“I am happy that I can remain a player of 1. FC Köln for the coming years,” said Anthony Modeste. “I apologize to the fans for causing some confusion in the past few weeks. But I am a guy that only looks forward. I am focused for the new season and I am happy to get started again with this team. The only thing that matters now is what happens on the football pitch.”

FC General Manager Jörg Schmatke states: “Anthony Modeste is a good Bundesliga Striker and proved so with his 15 goals last campaign. We decided to offer Tony an extension to his four-year-deal at an early point in time because we know how valuable he is to our team. We are happy about his commitment to FC.”

FC Head Coach Peter Stöger states: “I was very relaxed and under the impression that he would always remain one of our players. Because Jörg Schmadtke was consistently in touch, I knew that Tony and FC would find a good resolution.”
