FC face Groningen in friendly

On Tuesday evening, 1. FC Köln take on FC Groningen in a friendly at Franz-Kremer-Stadion. Kick-off is at 19:30 CET.

1. FC Köln’s first game of the new year, and of the Winter Break ahead of the second half of the season, will see them take on Dutch first division side, FC Groningen. The game will take place at Franz-Kremer-Stadion at 19:30 CET. The game will take place behind closed doors, but fans can follow the game live, as per usual, with the FC Liveticker and on the English Twitter account. For FC members, the live stream is available via FC-TV.

The 15th placed side in the Eredivisie, where FC loanee, Tim Handwerker currently plies his trade, are back in competitive action on January 19th and will go through a mini training camp in Germany this week. Handwerker has developed into a first-team regular with Groningen and has played 15 of 17 league games this season.

The Dutch side, who were formed in 1971, have produced players such as the Koeman brothers, Arjen Robben and Virgil van Dijk, won the Dutch Cup in 2015 against defending champions, PEC Zwolle. The current head coach of the team is Danny Buijs.

On Wednesday, the day after the game against Groningen, 1. FC Köln will head to Mallorca for their training game. There, Markus Anfang’s men will face RCD Mallorca in another friendly on January 16th. On the 23rd January, there will be a third friendly – this time, against VfL Bochum. This game will also take place behind closed doors at the Franz-Kremer-Stadion.
