Another trip to Regensburg in the DFB-Pokal. The first tie drawn on Sunday evening by Kevin Großkreutz saw FC as the first professional team to come out of the hat. They followed SSV Jahn Regensburg, a more than familiar opponent. After having taken on Jahn in the 2020-21 season, FC are facing another trip to the Jahnstadion in the first-round.
It means an immediate return to his former employer for FC Managing Director, Christian Keller. He spent seven years in Regensburg before deciding to leave for pastures new. Keller has been in his role at FC since April. On the draw, he said: “There is no more difficult tie in the first-round of the DFB-Pokal than taking on a 2. Bundesliga side. The fact that it is Jahn Regensburg is one of these stories that football tends to write. Personally, I'm looking forward to going back. In a sporting sense, however, we want to decide the tie in our favour.”
FC head coach, Steffen Baumgart said: “A more difficult draw wasn't really possible. Playing away against a 2. Bundesliga team is a going to be tough. For Christian Keller, it'll definitely be something special. For us, the only thing that matters is getting into the next round.”
