1. FC Köln have, as planned, strengthened in central defence and signed Toni Leistner from Queens Park Rangers. The 29-year-old defender will join on loan until the end of the season. Along with that, FC have secured an option to buy from the Championship club. This season, Leistner has made 22 appearances in the second tier and featured in two League Cup games.
“Toni arrives in top fitness. He is a quick and robust player, who is extremely good on the ground and in the air. With these qualities, he quickly established himself as a key player and then as captain. He can bring all of that to us,” said FC managing director, Horst Heldt.
“It was always my dream to play in the Bundesliga. When FC showed me the perspective here, I didn’t have to think long about it. I want to take this chance and help FC to remain in the Bundesliga,” said Toni Leistner.
Toni Leistner was born on 19th August 1990 in Dresden. In his home town, he played for SG Verkehrsbetriebe Dresden, Borea Dresden and, finally, for Dynamo’s academy. In July 2011, he played his first 2. Bundesliga game and made 20 appearances for Dynamo before moving onto 1. FC Union Berlin in summer 2014. He was a key part of the Union backline and made 115 appearances for the capital club. He then moved onto QPR, where he has continued his impressive performances, notching up 70 games in 18 months.
