Pre-season begins in August. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, 1. FC Köln will begin pre-season later than usual for the 2020-21 campaign. On Wednesday 5th August, the first performance tests begin.
There will also be just one training camp this summer. Like last year, FC are headed for Donaueschingen in Baden-Württenmberg. Markus Gisdol’s men will be based at “der Öschbergof” from 20th to 29th August.
Whether or not fans are able to watch on from the sidelines at training in Donaueschingen has not yet be confirmed. “We are trying to do everything possible and remain in contact with the authorities,” said Rainer Mendel, fan and fan club head at FC.
In pre-season, FC have confirmed several friendly matches. The first sees FC face SpVg. Porz at Frank-Kremer-Stadion on 11th August. A double matchday awaits on Saturday 15th of August, where Blau-Weiß Lohne and SV Deutz 05 are the opposition. The games are at 14:00 CEST and 16:00 CEST respectively. VfL Bochum will also visit Franz-Kremer-Stadion, as the Ruhrpott outfit play FC on 18th August at 15:00 CEST.
The opponents in the training camp have not yet been confirmed. There will be one final game after the time in Donaueschingen, as FC take on FC Utrecht on Saturday 5th September in Franz-Kremer-Stadion.
The first competitive game will see FC take on the winners of the Berlin Landespokal. The semi-finals and final are still yet to be played, with the latter taking place on 22nd August. The Bundesliga season will start a week later. The fixtures for the 2020-21 campaign will be announced on 7th August.
