The fifth new signing has arrived for 1. FC Köln. Celina Degen will strengthen FC in the new season. The young Austrian defender has already played in the UEFA Champions League with Hoffenheim.
Celina Degen grew up in Steiermark and took her first footballing steps at SV Gössendorf 2015 before joining SK Sturm Graz. At the age of 15, she made her debut in the Austrian Bundesliga and became Sturm Graz captain three years later. In summer 2020, she made the next step and joined TSG Hoffenheim. She made 14 Bundesliga appearances, featured 13 times in the 2. Bundesliga and played three Champions League games.
Celina Degen said: “I didn’t have to think long about joining FC. I directly had the feeling that the club is ideal for me. I am looking forward to getting to know my team-mates, the city and the family-element of the club. FC have played great football this season and they have been brave as well. I like it when the ball isn’t always played long but instead, we try to work things out from the back. I think that I can learn a lot in the new team.”
Head coach Sascha Glass said: “Celina fits very well into the profile we were looking for. She is a young player with room to develop, and she can take her next footballing steps with us. She can play at centre-back and in central midfield. Celina is strong in the tackle, good in the air and also scored her first Bundesliga goal at the weekend. We are pleased that she has decided to be part of our young and talented team.”
