The first new arrival for the 2022-23 season has been confirmed. Linton Maina will join 1. FC Köln on a free transfer from Hannover 96. The winger, who made 27 appearances and scored six goals for the Lower Saxony side, has signed until 2025.
FC Managing Director Christian Keller said: “Linton is a very quick player, who makes deep runs and is good in one-on-ones. Therefore, he can bring important attacking elements into our game. Linton also has the qualities to play Bundesliga football in his position. Our task will be to develop him in such a way that he consistently reaches his potential.”
Linton Maina said: “For me, it was clear for a while that I wanted to join FC. I had very good discussions with those responsible here and then decided very quickly on FC. I like the idea of how Steffen Baumgart plays football. I can’t wait for the move and for things to get started.”
Linton Maina was born on 23rd June 1999 in Berlin. The 22-year-old winger played for SV Pfefferwerk (2003-2011) and for SV Empor Berlin (2011-2014) before joining Hannover’s academy. Since the under-17s, Maina has been with the Lower Saxony side and has also gone through all youth national teams up until the under-20s.
