Comfortable 2-0

FC victory in Sandhausen

In a tenacious away game at SV Sandhausen, the 1 FC Cologne records a comfortable three points. Schaub and Terodde scored the goals in the 2-0 victory.

At the start of an intense week, with a midweek game, 1. FC Cologne won 2-0 at SV Sandhausen. The victory was never at risk.

"We do not want a spectacle, we want to play good football," FC head coach Markus Anfang stated before the match at SV Sandhausen. In fact, the first 45 minutes in the BWT-Stadium at Hardtwald were pretty unexciting. It took quite a while for the spectators to witness the first chance. Rúrik Gíslason for the hosts came dangerously close for the first time after eighteen minutes. After a pass from Karim Guedé the Icelandic international ran alone towards the Cologne goal, but Timo Horn spotted the danger and reached the ball first and thwarted the opportunity.

Also in the following period, the game offered only a few highlights and so, the 4,500 traveling FC fans had to wait until the 40th minute, as the team of Markus Anfang worked out the first good scoring opportunity. Marco Hoeger managed to pass the ball from the goal line into the center of the box, where Simon Terodde got into this space and took the effort. His shot, however, was blocked by a SVS defender. Only two minutes later, it became again very dangerous after a pass through the defensive line by Serhou Guirassy. Niklas Lomb ran out of his goal and cleared the ball just in time, as Simon Terodde was getting ready to score (42nd).

Cologne double strike
Most spectators had already come to terms with a goalless draw at halftime, when suddenly the FC fans screamed in joy. A Guirassy cross found Louis Schaub, who was with his back towards the goal in the penalty area. The Austrian controlled the ball with his chest and smashed the ball artistically into the net, while he fell, to enable the 1-0 lead (45th). After the break, the FC finally took full control and expanded the lead after fifty-four minutes. After a corner, it was Simon Terodde who nodded in from close range – scoring already his eighth goal of the season.

After that, the FC remained in full control of the match and earned the deserved three away points.
