FC win 3-0 in Darmstadt

Thanks to a significantly effective second half, the 1. FC Cologne won 3-0 against SV Darmstadt on Saturday afternoon. Simon Terodde, Rafael Czichos and Jhon Cordoba scored the goals for the FC.

1. FC Cologne is again on top of the 2nd Bundesliga - at least until Monday evening. The team of Markus Anfang defeated on Saturday afternoon the SV Darmstadt 98 by 3-0. The FC faced in the first half some problems, as the hosts played a courageous first half, but more structure, more possession and an overall significantly improved performance after the break led to ultimately to the positive outcome. With now 27 points the 1. FC Cologne tis level on points, but thanks to the better goal difference - at least temporarily – moves past Hamburg SV and sits on top spot in the table. Hamburg SV closes Matchday 14th and will only be in action on Monday evening.

Hector misses the game

Just before kick-off the FC head coach Markus Anfang had to change the starting formation on short notice: In fact, he wanted to start the game with the same formation as in the 8-1 victory against Dynamo Dresden. However, Jonas Hector had to cancel the warm-up program due to an injury. Jannes Horn started on the left side for the captain, Marco Hoeger took over the captain's arm band.

Darmstadt began powerful and dominantly, putting the FC under pressure right with the start of the match. And the hosts created right away a series of chances, both times denied, as FC keeper Timo Horn was on the spot. After eight minutes Darmstadt scored for the lead, after converting a counterattack. But the referee correctly disallowed the goal due to an offside call. It took a quarter of an hour before the 1. FC Cologne created the first good opportunity: Risse served Cordoba, whose header was deflected to the corner. Ten minutes later it was again Cordoba, who had the biggest chance of the match so far: Again after a cross from Marcel Risse, Cordoba was at the near post and again had the chance with his head. The ball missed the Darmstadt goal only by inches. Apart from these possibilities, the FC did well against a well-playing Darmstadt. Therefore it went with a goalless draw in the break.

Terodde initiates the victory

In the second half, the 1. FC Cologne started with much more compassion and seemed increasingly dangerous and threatening the Darmstadt goal. After several approaches it was once more Simon Terodde in the 55th minute , who scored for the lead: Dominick Drexler with a superb pass through towards Louis Schaub, who crossed the ball from the left into the middle - and Terodde was there with his head to score the lead for the FC. Already goal number 17 of the season for the central attack player. A little later Rafael Czichos doubled the lead for the FC (66’). After a corner by Louis Schaub the ball landed at the feet of the centre-back, who pushed the ball from a short distance over the line. Shortly thereafter, Jhon Cordoba scored the third and decided the game. The FC striker reacted strongly on a mistake in the build-up of the Darmstadt defence, he went round the opposing goalkeeper and netted home for the 3-0 (69’). With this goal, the game was decided and the FC brought the lead confidently to the final whistle.
