Thoughts after Leipzig

Gisdol: “Our best performance since we returned”

After the 4:2 defeat to RB Leipzig, Markus Gisdol, Jonas Hector and Rafael Czichos spoke to NetCologne FC-TV about the game and their thoughts on the loss.

Jonas Hector: “We put in a lot of effort but judging by that, the goals we conceded were too easy. Then you end up empty-handed against a team as good as Leipzig. We have to see to it that we win games again in the next few weeks. That would boost our self-confidence enormously. That's why we want to get that right in the next game against Augsburg.”

Rafael Czichos: “It was a nice feeling to be back on the pitch after such a long time out. For me personally, it is the first step. But the fact that we didn’t manage to win in the end leaves a bitter taste. We conceded goals too easily, we have to defend better. Both Leipzig goals in the second half should never, ever happen. A team like Leipzig will punish those mistakes. Even though we scored two goals, we couldn’t get anything from the game. That’s frustrating, because we haven’t got a win since the restart. We are working hard every day to change that. We are a team and I hope that we’ll end the winless run on Sunday in Augsburg.”

Markus Gisdol: “We have seen a very intense game. It was clear to us what the opponent can do. We held up well against them and made it difficult for them over long stretches. The opponent has quality and punished us for small mistakes. Since we returned to action, that was our best performance. We have to end the season calmly and consequently – with full concentration. If we play like we did against Leipzig, we’ll get points against other opponents. For me, it was fantastic to see what Rafa Czichos managed after his injury. It was a shame for us that Jhon had to come off injured. He has pain in his knee, I don’t know any more. We’ve got to wait and see. But Tony scored and was very dangerous when he came on.”
