Thoughts after the game

Horn: “We’ve missed the fans”

1. FC Köln reached the second round of the DFB-Pokal thanks to a 6:0 win over VSG Altglienicke. After the progression to the next round, Horst Heldt, Jonas Hector and Timo Horn gave their thoughts to the media.

Jonas Hector: “We’re pleased that we’ve reached the next round. Despite the high win, the performance can still be improved upon. We must take it up a level looking ahead to the Bundesliga. We still have a week in which we can work on things. It was nice that we were efficient and didn’t need many chances for our goals. We were also pleased, that fans were in the stands today and we could feel their support. Even when 300 supporters in the stadium is really just a drop in the ocean. As a team, we hope that there will be more fans in the coming weeks, who can spur us on in the stadium.”

Timo Horn: “We were a bit surprise at the start, as the opponent pressed so high. That makes it difficult to come into a game against a lower league team. But after the penalty, we were better in the game, were better with the ball in midfield and kept creating chances. At the end, it was a comfortable 6:0 win. We can build on that for the league. We were really pleased that a small number of fans were allowed in today. We hope that, in the next few weeks, more and more people are able to come. After the Corona break, that was something that we extremely missed at home games. The incredible atmosphere in a full RheinEnergieSTADION can make the difference.”

Horst Heldt: “At the beginning, you saw that we were playing an ambitious fourth division club who want to get promoted to 3. Liga. But we got the game under control and deservedly won. We delivered a great performance, but we can’t take away things for the entire season. Today, it was just about getting through. Obviously, there are things that we want to do better. However, today we scored a few goals and kept a clean sheet. That was good.”
