Ismail Jakobs has departed his hometown club. The winger will leave 1. FC Köln and join Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco. He has signed a contract there until 2026. Both clubs have agreed to remain silent on the transfer details.
“Iso has developed very well in the last two years and established himself as a starter in the Bundesliga. He is symbolic of our path, to put faith in our academy, and enjoyed a good standing with our fans. On the other hand, it was Iso’s desire to move clubs. He told us that personally last week. He wants to make the next step and establish himself at a continental level, with the chance to play in the Champions League. That is understandable, even when we don’t want to let our own go. We wish him all the best and plenty of success with his new challenge,” said FC Managing Director, Alexander Wehrle.
“I am very thankful to FC. I grew up here and made the step up to the first-team. FC will always be my team. At the same time, I am happy that the club have allowed me to make the move to join Monaco. That was my desire, to develop at a new level for one of the top clubs in Europe. I was my team colleagues at FC, Steffen Baumgart and the FC fans all the best for the new season. I want to thank those responsible, the staff at Geißbockheim and our fans, who have all been with me on this journey,” said Ismail Jakobs.
Ismail Jakobs was born on 17th August 1999 in Köln. The versatile winger joined FC in 2012 and made his way through all academy teams at Geißbockheim. The current U21 European champion made his Bundesliga debut in the 2019-20 season against TSG Hoffenheim. Jakobs managed 43 Bundesliga appearances, with three goals and three assists. He also featured in the relegation play-off for Friedhelm Funkel’s side and helped secure a place in the Bundesliga for the upcoming season.
