Italian sports newspaper tuttosport put together a list of the world’s best 100 players under the age of 21. This time, Jan Thielmann is on that list. The 20-year-old is one of 22 Bundesliga players to have made it onto the shortlist.
Thielmann has been with FC since making the move from Eintracht Trier in 2017. The Föhren-born attacker helped FC to win the German under-17 Championship in 2019, scoring in both legs of the semi-final against Bayern Munich. Thielmann made his Bundesliga debut against Bayer Leverkusen on 14th December 2019, becoming the second youngest player in FC’s top-flight history. He has made an impressive 72 appearances for the first-team to date, scoring five goals and setting up a further eight.
FC Managing Director, Christian Keller said: “It’s well-deserved recognition for the path that Jan has been on and should give him motivation for the challenging time doing his rehab. It is also a positive signal for everyone in the team and in the academy.”
Jan Thielmann said: “I am really pleased with the nomination and that has given me even more motivation for the upcoming season. It is a huge honour for me to be part of the best 100 under-21 players in the world. To see the hard work over the past few years pay off is also nice. At the same time, it also further proof of the excellent work in our academy.”
