Marius Laux has taken over the post of team manager at 1. FC Köln to begin the new year. In December, Laux ended his career as captain of the under-21s in the Regionalliga West having made 386 competitive appearances for FC. In his last game for the under-21s, he scored the equaliser in the final stages of the game to secure a 1:1 draw against SV Lippstadt. Laux will take over from Denis Lapaczinski, who is currently released from his work and with whom an amicable solution is being worked on.
Laux will now be responsible for organisation surrounding the first-team and will work as the binding force between the players, staff and employees at Geißbockheim.
Thomas Kessler, Sporting Director of the first-team, said: “We are happy that we were able to convince Marius to end his playing career earlier as planned and to join our team. During his time as a player, he had been preparing himself for his career afterwards. He identifies 100% ith this club and has displayed his leadership qualities on and off the pitch with our reserves. I am really looking forward to working with him.”
Marius Laux said: “The end of my career came six months earlier than planned but I absolutely wanted to take up this opportunity at FC. In the past few years, I’ve been fortunate to get some experience in different areas at Geißbockheim to prepare myself for the time after my playing career ends. I had excellent talks with Thomas Kessler and Lukas Berg, I’m very thankful for their trust and I’m really looking forward to the task ahead as first-team team manager.”
Alongside his footballing career, Laux completed a Bachelor in Business Administration and his MBA (Master of Business Administration) with a focus on Sports Management. He also possess a coaching B-Licence.
