Attacker arrives from Hannover 96

Leonardo Bittencourt joins FC

1. FC Köln has secured the services of Leonardo Bittencourt. The 21 year-old attacker arrives from Hannover 96. The two sides have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. Bittencourt has signed a contract keeping him at the club until June 30th, 2019, and he will wear the jersey number 21.

Leonardo Bittencourt came up the ranks at FC Energie Cottbus, making his debut for the second division side at the tender age of 17. In 2012 he transferred to Borussia Dortmund, for which he featured in the second team other than five Bundesliga appearances, one DFB Cup appearance, and one Champions League appearance. Just one year later Bittencourt made the transfer to Hannover 96, for which he featured in 57 competitive matches and scored 5 goals.

“In Leonardo Bittencourt we have a player who will give us an additional flexible option in our offensive game plan,” said FC General Manager Jörg Schmadtke. “With his talent and quality, Leo has proven himself in the Bundesliga. We are confident that he will take the next steps in his professional development with us.”

Leonardo Bittencourt states: “The way 1. FC Köln made their mark in just their first season back in the top flight really impressed me. The talks I had with the club’s decision makers has made me optimistic that this will be the optimal setting for the next step in my development. Peter Stöger and Jörg Schmadtke are all about consistency, and they have got a clear plan on how to lead this incredible club towards a successful future. They have put together a great team and play in a superb environment with fans that support the club very passionately. I am convinced that we will fit together really well.”
