Assistant coach of the U21’s

McKenna leaves FC

Kevin McKenna leaves 1. FC Köln with immediate effect. The Canadian joined FC in 2007 and recently held the position of assistant coach of the U21’s.

Kevin McKenna has decided to leave 1. FC Köln with immediate effect. A part of the club for twelve years, he played for the First Team before joining the youth team as a coach.

Kevin McKenna said: “I didn’t have the prospect of taking on the junior team as head coach in the near future. After a conversation, that’s why I decided to leave FC at short notice. It was important to me that I informed my coaching staff that this situation could occur depending on the outcome of the talks. FC has done a lot for me in my career and I am very grateful for that. The fans here are incredible and I will never forget my time here.”

Matthias Heidrich, Head of the Youth Talent Centre said: “Unfortunately, we could not promise Kevin his desired role at the moment. We have not only lost a passionate employee but also an identifiable figure. We wish Kevin all the best for his future. We are working on a succession plan but we want to work on a good solution instead of a quick one.”

On Saturday, the U21’s start the season with an away game at Fortuna Köln.
