Kevin McKenna has decided to leave 1. FC Köln with immediate effect. A part of the club for twelve years, he played for the First Team before joining the youth team as a coach.Kevin McKenna said: “I didn’t have the prospect of taking on the junior team as head coach in the near future. After a conversation, that’s why I decided to leave FC at short notice. It was important to me that I informed my coaching staff that this situation could occur depending on the outcome of the talks. FC has done a lot for me in my career and I am very grateful for that. The fans here are incredible and I will never forget my time here.” Matthias Heidrich, Head of the Youth Talent Centre said: “Unfortunately, we could not promise Kevin his desired role at the moment. We have not only lost a passionate employee but also an identifiable figure. We wish Kevin all the best for his future. We are working on a succession plan but we want to work on a good solution instead of a quick one.” On Saturday, the U21’s start the season with an away game at Fortuna Köln.
