One of the leaders in the FC Frauen team, Peggy Nietgen will continue with the club in 2. Bundesliga and has extended her contract until 30th June 2021. Her previous deal with only valid for the Bundesliga.
The 33-year-old won the Champions League in 2015 with 1. FFC Frankfurt, the UEFA Women’s Cup in 2005 with Turbine Potsdam and secured the Bundesliga title twice as well the the DFB-Pokal four times. Since July 2017, she has been at FC. In the Bundesliga, Nietgen has made 267 appearances and scored 26 goals. In the previous season, Nietgen was captain.
Peggy Nietgen said: “We unfortunately didn’t manage to stay up last season. Now we have to make good on that and work together to get FC back into the Bundesliga. We want to show that we belong in the Bundesliga. This family club has become part of my heart in the last three years. I’m looking forward to the new season and I’m sure that we will have a strong team in the battle for promotion.”
Head coach, Sascha Glass said: “Peggy is one of the leaders in the team with a big FC heart. She pushes the team on and gives everything in every game. She already has plenty of experience and important qualities, and took another step forward in the previous season. She is a pillar of our defence and we’re pleased that she’s decided to come into 2. Bundesliga with us.”
