New deal until 2019

Pawel Olkowski signs extension

1. FC Köln has extended the running contract of right-back Pawel Olkowski. His original deal was set to run out in 2017, but this new deal will bind him at the club until June 30th, 2019.

“The first few months were a settling in period for him, but he has quickly established himself as a vital part of our team and has developed to fulfill the expectations we had of him,” said FC General Manager Jörg Schmadtke. “With his speed and his strength in tackling, Pawel is a major factor in our team. We believe he has even more potential and are happy that he is feeling well here at 1. FC Köln.”

“The transfer to Cologne was absolutely the right decision and I am thankful to the club and to the entire training staff for instilling their confidence in me,” said Pawel Olkowski. “I feel very well in this team and want to play my part in helping 1. FC Köln establish themselves as a top Bundesliga team in the coming years.”

Olkowski arrived at the start of this current season on a free transfer from Gornik Zabrze. He has featured in 28 competitive matches for 1. FC Köln and has scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists. The 25 year-old has appeared 8 times for the Polish national team and has been selected for Poland’s upcoming European Championship qualifier against Ireland on March 29th.
