Kiel will take a one-nil lead into the second leg after Simon Lorenz’s goal just before the hour-mark gave them the win. FC saw more of the ball and had more shots at goal but failed to find the back of the net. A physical and tightly contested affair in Müngersdorf will most likely be repeated in Kiel, with FC requiring a win to force extra-time or secure their spot in the Bundesliga next season.

Ole Werner: “On Saturday, things continue. At the moment it is half-time. The second leg will be hotly contested until the final whistle. We are looking forward to the game, we know how difficult the task ahead is and will have to give everything for 90 minutes. It’s about recovering well from the first leg and fine tuning a few things at the back.”
Friedhelm Funkel: “The decision as to who will play in the Bundesliga next season, that will be made on Saturday. We have to put in a better performance. It is 0:1 at half-time. Obviously, I had hoped for a better result in the first leg but I knew that it would be a tough game. We didn’t create as many good chances as against Schalke but still had three or four good openings. I am not satisfied with our set-pieces and what we made out of them. We have good takers, and they have to do better.”
Holstein Kiel: Alexander Mühling and Jonas Meffert will both return following their suspensions from the first leg. The midfield duo are both likely to start in midfield. Johannes van den Bergh will miss out after a fifth yellow card. Otherwise, there are no major issues for Ole Werner. 1. FC Köln: Elvis Rexhbecaj is unlikely to be fit for the return leg due to the same muscular problems that kept him out of Wednesday’s game. All other players are available for today’s game.
