Sebastian Andersson underwent an operation on Friday after discussions with Christian Keller, Thomas Kessler, Steffen Baumgart and the 1. FC Köln club doctors. The successful surgery was carried out by a specialist in Copenhagen. After a few days rest, the 31-year-old will begin with his rehab programme. The time in which he will be absent is not yet certain.
FC Managing Director, Christian Keller said: “For Sebastian, his time at FC has not been easy and especially in the last few weeks. In the summer break, we very directly communicated that he probably wouldn’t have much playing time. He took that professionally, trained well and, at the same time, had several options to move clubs. At the end of the day, he decided to remain in Köln after open and trusting talks with one another. Instead, he has decided to undergo the knee operation, which has caused him problems for a while. We respect his decision to do so. What has come about since then is not what we need. The focus should now lie on what is most important: a speedy recovery for Sebastian. We will do our best to support him in that.”
