Simon Terodde is top goalscorer

It was an historically strong season for Simon Terodde. With his 29 goals, he secured the title of top-scorer for a third time in four seasons.

Simon Terodde managed to add yet another goal to his tally on Sunday afternoon during the 1:1 draw in Magdeburg. He put 1. FC Köln ahead in typical fashion – the 31-year-old managed to open the scoring after nodding home Florian Kainz’s cross. He does, however, lie just three just behind Sven Demandt in the race for the league’s all-time top-scorer. Demandt (121 goals in 316 games) has played considerably more times than Terodde (118 goals in 219 games), though.

Despite that, Simon Terodde’s 2018-19 season was incredibly impressive. Perhaps it will be the best of his career – and that means something. For years, the striker has managed to score on a regular basis in 2. Bundesliga. But he’s never managed as many goals as he has this season. Terodde was a big part of FC’s return to the Bundesliga.

29 goals. It’s almost 30 years, since anyone scored as many in 2. Bundesliga. Michael Tönnies managed it in the 1990-91 season for MSV Duisburg. Simon Terodde secured the top-scorer title ahead of team-mate, Jhon Cordoba (20 goals).

“Before the season, I couldn’t have imagined 29 goals. That’s not happened in the last few years and, because of that, I’m very proud. But it wasn’t all my own work. My team-mates have always put me in good positions. I would like to take the record at some point before I hang up the boots. But now it’s about the Bundesliga,” said Terodde after full-time in Magdeburg.

Congratulations, Simon!
