Timo Horn: Today, not many people believed that we could get something in Dortmund. We were already hit with the injuries before the game to Jorge Meré and Sebastian Andersson, who both played last time out. How the boys gave everything against an opponent who, really, is better – that was sensational. I am incredibly proud of the team after so many games without a win, to pull out a performance like that today. Coming into the game, the coach had a good talk with us and brought us together after the Union game. He said that we had to draw a line under the past few months. We wanted to start again from scratch against Dortmund and give everything. The fact that it turned out to be three points in Dortmund surely wasn’t expected but our performance today was the basis for that. We had no choice but to throw ourselves into every challenge. That has to be the case in the coming weeks as well. Despite that, even after a win against Dortmund, our situation is still precarious. We have to keep working hard to stay in the league. That’s what it is about.
Marius Wolf: Everyone who plays football wants to win. If someone had said to us that we would take a point with us from Dortmund, then we would have taken it. For us, it was important to show a different side to us on the pitch. That is what we did. The fact that we won is even better. We were together on the pitch and worked week for week, so that we didn’t let ourselves get overwhelmed. Obviously the pressure has been growing in the past weeks but that was a great performance from us today against Dortmund. The fact that it came from two goals where I was at the front post makes me happy. I had hoped that one or the two headers would have went in but I’m buzzing for Ellyes scoring twice. He is an unbelievably hard-worker on the pitch. But the team threw everything at it today, both in attack and in defence.
Ellyes Skhiri: We are very happy. It was an important win. After the previous weeks, our confidence wasn’t that high but the team showed great character today. Both of my goals looked the same today. I always try to get into a good position from corners and free-kicks. But there is a little luck about it as well. You need that, too. It was the first time I’ve ever scored twice in one game. That most important thing was, however, the togetherness that the team showed. We can build on that. This win was hugely important for the team.
Markus Gisdol: I am really pleased about the first win. For the team, the staff and, above all, the fans who are behind us week after week. We were very present, happy to run and were incredibly hard working. The team deserved the win today. I thanked the team for that. For the work that they put in, all are a sworn bunch. That isn’t a given, when you haven’t won for so long. This team is good. This team will stabilise. They can deliver things, which you won’t have seen in the last few weeks. We are missing the confidence. We want to get that back, piece by piece. The analysis team around Hannes Dold did very, very good work again today. We knew how to attack the opponent today. We didn’t allow the opponent much. We have a strength when it comes to corners. Last year, that brought us a lot of points. Now we’re back on the right path this year. My assistant coach, André Pawlak takes care of the set-pieces. It was nice that it worked out twice today. We’ll give Ellyes Skhiri the number nine next week!
