Injury Update

Status of Simon Terodde

Simon Terodde had to be substituted out of the Hannover match after roughly an hour of play. The FC striker is recovering well after receiving a boot to the head.

It was a shocking scene on a Saturday afternoon. The match had entered the 58th minute when FC striker Simon Terodde was kicked in the head by Hannover defender Salif Sané. The FC number 9 went to the ground and the doctors were at his side no less than a minute later. An instant, which the FC striker can no longer remember. “That scene is gone from my memory. I received a kick and did not know what happened,” said Terodde.

A stretcher came onto the field to carry Terodde back into the locker room. “It was not until we were making our way back to the locker room that things started to become clear. My wife was already there waiting for me. She was watching inside the stadium and was clearly worried.” The prognosis came fairly quickly: Terodde had suffered a mild concussion. “I was both lucky and unlucky. I had a headache, but it was nothing too serious,” says the FC striker. His recovery will begin on Tuesday with a light session on a stationary bike.

After the match, Hannover defender Sané made his way to the FC locker room to check on Terodde and to apologize for the incident. The Senegalese defender also had well wishes for Terodde on his own Instagram page: “I would like to once again apologize for the hit I gave you that resulted in you having to leave the match. I hope that you will return to your team quickly and that you will play a good rest of the season.”

Terodde, meanwhile, has no hard feelings for his opponent. “I don’t think he did it on purpose. This kind of thing can happen in football. It shows everything that he apologized multiple times to me already,” says Terodde.
