Terodde is Man of the Match

With three goals on Saturday, Simon Terodde helped 1. FC Köln to a 5:1 home win against Arminia Bielefeld. He was subsequently voted Man of the Match.

At a sold out RheinEnergieSTADION, 1. FC Köln put in a superb performance and secured a comfortable 5:1 win against Arminia Bielefeld. After game in which the entire team performed well, the fans had their own selection headache as to who was Man of the Match. The following three players were nominated:

Simon Terodde: The search for the record continues. After his hat-trick against Arminia Bielefeld, Terodde needs just six more goals to equal the all-time 2. Bundesliga goalscoring record with Sven Demandt (121). Against his favourite opponents, who he has now scored against 13 times in seven games, Arminia were unable to prevent him from confirming that theory. He had six shots on goal, three of which ended up in the back of the net – once again confirming Terodde’s clinical finishing ability. He now has 26 goals this season.

Jhon Cordoba: What Jhon Cordoba produced for the third goal was nothing short of top class. The striker picked the ball up on the wing before running half the length of the pitch and slotting past Stefan Ortega with a cool head. Cordoba now has 12 goals for the season and 10 of those have come in the past 13 matches. Along with his superb goal came his usual work ethic and team play, having won the majority of his duels – an impressive statistic for a striker.

Johannes Geis: Another key to the success on Saturday. Johannes Geis’ set-pieces are a huge asset to FC, and he showed that again as Simon Terodde connected with two corners to score twice. He continued to show his ability to keep the ball moving and play clever passes going forward. In seven games, Geis has already managed five assists for 1. FC Köln. Whenever he has managed an assist, FC have gone on to win the game.

When it came to Man of the Match, it’s hard to beat someone who has scored a hat-trick and the FC fans voted for Simon Terodde with an overwhelming majority.
