Training at Geißbockheim

The day at FC: First session under Pawlak and Schmid

The new 1. FC Köln coaching team started work at Geißbockheim on Monday. André Pawlak and assistant coach, Manfred Schmid headed up the session of the FC players.

At 9:56 on Monday morning, André Pawlak brought the FC players together on training pitch 1. The new FC head coach held a small meeting with his players before getting to work. The following first session began with the obligatory warm-up and rondos. What followed was seven against seven with six small goals. At the end, the fans gathered at Geißbockheim witnessed a small training game, in which both teams played with a back four.

Squad situation

Along with the injured Christian Clemens, Marco Höger and Anthony Modeste didn’t train with the squad on Monday. Both have muscular problems and completed an individual programme. They should return to team training at the end of the week. Both goalkeepers, Jan-Christoph Bartels and Brady Scott were also missing in team training. Bartels injured himself in training on Friday and, much like Scott, worked individually.

Schaub stops training

There was a moment of shick on Monday towards the end of the session. After a tackle with Noah Katterbach, Louis Schaub remained on the turf. After some treatment, he made his way back to the dressing room. Afterwards, André Pawlak reassured everyone: “He’s taken a knock but it’s nothing major. He’s gone home with a little plaster.”

Christian Clemens successfully operated on

It was not so much of a short fix for Christian Clemens, however. The 27-year-old was successfully operated on. After the home game against Darmstadt, the winger had torn a knee ligament. During the game, Chrille was brought to the MediaPark Klinik, where he was eventually operated on, for an MRI scan.
