Training at Geißbockheim

The day at FC: Terodde misses out

1. FC Köln began a new week of training on Tuesday, without Simon Terodde, who is missing due to tonsillitis. Head coach, Markus Anfang spoke in between sessions about the previous home game, the upcoming match against MSV Duisburg and the squad situation. Marcel Risse also had a scare.

Bad news for Simon Terodde. FC’s leading goalscorer is absent due to tonsillitis and will be unavailable for the next 10 days. As a result, he will miss the away game against MSV Duibsurg on Sunday.

After the 5:1 home win against Arminia Bielefeld, Markus Anfang’s team had the following two days free before preparations for the game against Duisburg got underway on Tuesday. On the agenda were two sessions, which saw a few players miss out. Dominick Drexler trained individually, with Rafael Czichos totally absent. Both are battling the cold. Matthias Bader returned in the afternoon after overcoming his ankle issues.

Marcel Risse had a scare around midday on Tuesday. After lunch, he suffered an allergic shock and required medical care. Thankfully, the 29-year-old is getting better.

In the morning, Markus Anfang spoke at Geißbockheim about…

…the home win against Arminia Bielefeld: “Of course it went well. We have had quite a few thoughts about how to be more stable in the middle. Therefore, we started with Geis and Höger because we knew that Louis Schaub couldn’t start. We also had the topic of set-pieces. Either Schaub or Geis takes the set-pieces, and we’ve got to think about that too. That worked well and Jonas did very well at the back. It’s also good, if you come into the game well and start with some good play. We’ve spoken about it a lot, that we’ve not started well in the first five minutes but this time, I think we started very well.”

…the manner of the win: “It’s obviously nice when you play nice football, but that always has something to do with how the opponent plays. Arminia are a team, that also want to play football from the back. Normally, the teams play long balls forward.”

…the efforts of Simon Terodde: “It’s not about solitary players, it’s about how the team functions as a whole. Obviously it was a question, whether Tony or Simon started. We tested things through the week and I said before that we’d tried a few different things. We then decided that we had the feeling that Simon fit better and Tony could do well off the bench. That we were able to react after that, and give Tony game time was valuable.”

…the squad situation: “Simon is absent, and he’ll probably not be able to take part in training for the next 10 days due to his tonsillitis. We have tried to manage the situation and therefore we said that we’ll have two days free, so that the guys with the cold could recover a little. That didn’t work with Simon. Dominick Drexler and Rafael Czichos are still a little under the weather, but hopefully they’ll be back during the week.”

…the upcoming game in Duisburg: “We are on a good path and want to continue that in Duisburg. If that works for us, and we manage to take the three points, then that leaves us in a super position. We beat ourselves in the home game against Duisburg, I hope that we can do it better this time.”
