Matchday 16

The Number Crunch: At home against Hertha

1. FC Köln welcome Hertha BSC to the RheinEnergieSTADION on Saturday, keen to get back to the pre-Christmas form. They take on a Hertha team who are also hoping to get back to winning ways. Here are 10 stats and facts ahead of the game.

1. FC Köln’s 5:0 triumph against Hertha BSC last time the two sides met was the club’s highest away win since the 6:1 victory against SV Darmstadt 98 in 2016-17. It was only the third time that FC had recorded a 5:0 away win in the Bundesliga.

Dead ball danger

46% of FC’s goals this season have come from set-pieces. The highest percentage in the Bundesliga. Only Borussia Dortmund (42%) have conceded a higher percentage of goals from dead ball situations this campaign than Hertha (40%) thus far.

FC have only conceded twice from crosses this season. Just two other Bundesliga teams can boast a better record: SC Freiburg and VfL Wolfsburg. The pair have conceded only one goal from crosses thus far.

Against the current set of Bundesliga sides, FC can only boast a better win percentage in Köln against SC Freiburg (64%) and FC Schalke 04 (63%) than in home games against Hertha. FC have won 62% of their home matches against the Berlin club.

Hannes Löhr’s only Goal of the Month came against Hertha BSC, and will be almost 35 years to the day since he scored it. While Saturday’s game against the capital club takes place on January 16th, Löhr’s superb strike was on January 17th 1976.

Two FC players are on the verge of milestones this weekend. Should Jorge Meré and Ellyes Skhiri feature at the weekend it will be their 75th and 50th appearances for FC, respectively.

Sebastiaan Bornauw and Dedryck Boyata are both in the top three when it comes to blocked shots in the Bundesliga. Bornauw leads the way, alongside Matthias Ginter, on 17. Boyata is just one behind on 16.

Cunha could be key

Matheus Cunha is enjoying his most successful Bundesliga season to date. The Brazilian forward has managed six goals and two assists this campaign, one more than he registered in the previous term.

Cunha has also attempted the most dribbles in the Bundesliga this season. The 21-year-old has attempted 78 dribbles, nine more than Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. Unsurprisingly, Cunha has also completed the most dribbles in the league (43) as well.

Bruno Labbadia has shown the ability to change the game for the capital club could come from the bench. Six goals have come from Hertha’s substitutes this season, a tally only topped by VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich (both seven).
