Ruthenbeck on Wolfsburg

“This team never let their heads hang”

The final match of the season sees 1. FC Köln face VfL Wolfsburg. FC head coach Stefan Ruthenbeck spoke on Friday’s press conference about the upcoming fixture.

Stefan Ruthenbeck spoke about…

  • …relegation: “Our performance could have an effect on the relegation results, but each team is responsible for its own fate. We want to put on a good showing for our fans, who have been very loyal to us, and to show them what is possible. Which club ends up in relegation with us is not our concern.
  • …injuries: “Jhon Cordoba was unable to train this week, while Sehrou Guirassy was still in his first week since his injury. Both players will not be in the squad. Leo Bittencourt, meanwhile, will be traveling with us.”
  • …his experience as coach of 1. FC Köln: “I am taking away many things and I believe I learned a lot. Of course it is something different to train the First team. There is an additional pressure, particularly with the attention of the media. I did not begin with the best of circumstances but I think this team did the best it could. Hope was still there until very recently. This team showed great character and never let their heads hang. It is sad that this team is being relegated and the reasons will have to be analyzed, but I believe this team is capable of gaining promotion quickly.”
  • …his personal future: “Armin Veh and I are in constant contact. My decision has already been made, but it will only be revealed after the Wolfsburg match.”
