U21: Klasen is new assistant coach

Thomas Klasen is new assistant coach of 1. FC Köln's under-21s. The 35-year-old was previously head coach at Luxembourg first-division side, CS Fola Esch.

The under-21s have filled the open position of assistant coach, giving Mark Zimmermann his new co-trainer. Thomas Klasen will be the successor to Kevin McKenna, who left the club of his own accord. Klasen was born in Neuwied and previously worked as a head coach in the first division in Luxembourg. He led CS Fola Esch to the cup in 2018, and to the following Europa League qualifying stages.

Thomas Klasen said: "I'm looking forward to the new challenge and to help develop young players. I want to play my part in helping the players move forward and to best prepare them for the leap into professional football. In Luxembourg, I was able to collect a lot of experience that I want to bring into my new coaching team."

The under-21s have begun the new Regionalliga West season with two wins. After the 1:0 away win against Fortuna Köln, they followed that p with a 3:0 win over SV Bergisch Gladbach. Their next game is on Sunday, as they take on Rot-Weiss Essen in a top of the table clash.
