Schlax and Schmitt extend

U21 sign Richter

The 1. FC Köln under-21s have signed Tyson Richter. The 18-year-old has signed from Regionalliga side USI Lupo-Martini Wolfsburg. Oliver Schmitt and Luca Schlax have extended their contracts.

The 1. FC Köln under-21s have secured their place in Regionalliga West ahead of next season, and the first arrival for the new campaign has already been confirmed. Tyson Richter joins from USI Lupo-Martini Wolfsburg. The 18-year-old can play anywhere down the right-hand side. Matthias Heidrich, sporting director of the youth academy, said: “Tyson Richter is a young player with potential, who has already gained experienced. We are convinced that he can make the next step in his development with us.”

Johannes Kölmel, Paul Maurer, Roman Prokoph, Florian Hörnig, Hikmet Ciftci, Daniel Nessler, Chris Führich, Marcel Damaschek, Sven Bacher and Mateusz Trochanowski were all given their goodbyes at the home game against SV Rödinghausen. The last game of the season is on Sunday against Wuppertaler SV.

From the under-19s to the under-21s

Under-19 players, Luca Schlax and Oliver Schmitt have extended their contracts and will be a part of the under-21 squad next season. “We’re pleased that the pair have decided to continue their development with us,” commented Heidrich. Schmitt has been with FC since 2007, Schlax joined the academy in 2014.

The under-19s narrowly missed out on a place in the German championship last weekend after suffering a 0:1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. However, they have the chance to avenge that loss when they face the same opponents on Saturday in the FVM-Pokal final. Kick-off is at 11:00 CEST at Franz-Kremer-Stadion.
