Werner Wolf praises professional hand over

Wehrle leaves FC on 20th March

The plan for Managing Director, Alexander Wehrle’s departure from 1. FC Köln has now been set in stone. FC President, Dr. Werner Wolf and Alexander Wehrle have agreed on a concrete time plan to hand over the Managing Director responsibilities to the new Commercial Managing Director, Philipp Türoff.

Wehrle’s last day as Managing Director at FC will be on Saturday 12th March. His contract will then run out on 20th March. In the days leading up to his departure, the long-term FC Managing Director will attend the digital DFL General Assembly along with Philipp Türoff as FC’s representative on 8th March and vote on behalf of 1. FC Köln on 11th March at the DFB House of Representatives.

Alexander Wehrle has ensured there was a professional onboarding process for Philipp Türoff, who joined FC in January 2022. FC President, Werner Wolf: “We want to give Alexander Wehrle the send-off he deserves. During this phase, he also demonstrated the great professionalism with which he has shaped 1. FC Köln in recent years. He organised the hand over very well. But the process was also made as smoothly as possible by the very impressive effort that our Managing Director, Philipp Türoff put in in his first few weeks here in order to familiarise himself as best as possible.”

A few emotional days now await Alexander Wehrle: “Since I came to FC in 2013, I’ve been through thick and thin with many different people and a fantastic team at Geißbockheim. After over nine years, the journey has come to an end for me. I can leave with a good conscience and feeling that I leave an FC behind that is economically, structurally and sportingly stable. It was an honour for me, to work for 1. FC Köln and I wish the team, staff and colleagues, committees and the FC fans all the best. Apart from when it’s against Stuttgart, of course.” Wehrle emphasises that, despite the move, he will still have a deep connection to FC and the city. “For another, special challenge and the return to my home, to VfB, it is now the right time. That doesn’t change the fact that I will have friends for life in Köln and at FC, and I’ve found a second home here. Part of me will stay here. Thank you, FC. Thank you, Köln. Tschüssle.”

Philipp Türoff will take over the responsibilities for the Managing Director post on his own from 12th March. “I thank Alex for the intensive months that have come and gone and wish him all the best for his new challenge. I have been in all the processes and topics surrounding 1. FC Köln over the previous few weeks and I am confident that we will experience a very professional hand over. I thank Alex for his openness and his detailed work in this phase. I am ready. Together with the Board of Directors and the other Managing Directors who will soon join, we look ahead and towards our goals.”

At the beginning of April, the Managing Director position will be expanded with the arrival of Christian Keller, who will take care of sporting matters. In the mid-term, a third Managing Director should complete the management level at Geißbockheim.
