Yannick Gerhardt leaves FC

Midfielder Yannick Gerhardt transfers to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. The two teams have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.

1. FC Köln and VfL Wolfsburg have reached an agreement for the transfer of Yannick Gerhardt. The midfielder will join Wolfsburg for the start of the 2016/17 season. His contract with FC was set to run until June 30, 2018.

Gerhardt has played for 1. FC Köln since the academy days and joined Peter Stöger’s senior team in 2013. The German U21 player featured in 45 Bundesliga matches (3 goals) and 29 matches in the Bundesliga second division (3 goals).

“Yannick’s desire for a transfer and a fair offer from Wolfsburg were the principal factors in making this decision. We are losing a player that was raised and trained superbly in our academy,” said FC General Manager Jörg Schmadtke. “We wish him all the best on his path.”

Yannick Gerhardt states: “I am thankful for the training staff, executives, and my teammates for trusting me as a young player and for giving me the opportunity to develop into a professional at my hometown club. 1. FC Köln and its fans will always hold a special place for me. It was a difficult decision for me to leave FC, but I am hoping to take the next step in my development by transferring to Wolfsburg and I am thankful to FC for allowing me to do so.”
