FC attacker, Simon Zoller has left 1. FC Köln and will join VfL Bochum.

After four seasons, Simon Zoller has dissolved his contract with 1. FC Köln and will join fellow 2. Bundesliga side, VfL Bochum. His contract was valid until 2020. In terms of the figures involved in the deal, both teams have agreed to remain silent.

FC managing director, Armin Veh said: “The transfer is a sensible solution for all parties involved. Simon is a professional, who wants to and muss play. We wish him only the best and thank him dearly for his time with FC.”

Simon Zoller joined the club from 1. FC Kaiserslautern, after promotion in 2014, who he then played on loan for during the Rückrunde of the 2014-15 season. For 1. FC Köln, Zoller made 91 appearances across the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and in the UEFA Europa League. In total, he managed to find the back of the net 16 times. In the current season, the 27-year-old has made just two appearances.

Simon Zoller said: “I am proud and thankful, that I’ve been able to be a part of the journey with FC into Europe as a player. I would have loved to have helped to make good on the relegation of 2018. Still, I’m in my prime footballing years and I’ve got to play football. The talks with the FC board and the coach was always open and direct, that the move to Bochum was the right step for me. I want to thank my colleagues, the coaches, board and everyone at Geißbockheim, as well as the fantastic FC fans, for the time together. I wish you all promotion from the bottom of my heart!”

1. FC Köln would like to thank Zolli for his efforts in the FC kit and wish him all the best for the future.
